::  C.A.T. (Computer Aided Translation)
At present special software tools are used in translation practice. However, there are not only basic applications such as text editors or various electronic dictionaries, but also sophisticated tools making translator's endeavour easier, contributing to the quality of translation as well as reducing occurrence of mistakes.

Many of these Computer Aided Translation tools work on the principle of so-called "translation memory", which is a database of all translated texts that is created by translator during his/her translation practice. Data in database are arranged and stored in form of pairs of sentences in source as well as target language.

Translation memory enables to use data from previous translations of similar area, immediately check terminology consistence in all translating documents, which is very convenient in case of large translations. It also makes translation of repeating similar parts of text easier, where there is a high risk of mistakes occurrence as a result of omit, skip, miss, overlook or inattention.

Using of these tools is convenient especially at translating documents with high probability of repeating of particular parts of text - typical example is translation of technical documentation or program equipment localisation. In case there is a team of translators working on one large translation project, one on-line translation memory shared by each translator of the team is necessity to keep translation consistent.

These software tools could be used under the condition, that source document to be translated must be in electronic form.

Another advantage is better ergonomic working environment, as thanks to these tools translator can see
simultaneously source as well as translated text on the screen, which reducing eye-strain from repeating changes of sight from printed source to the monitor screen and back and again.

Among the most known Computer Aided Translation tools software belong programs such as Translator's Workbench of Trados, DejaVu of Atril, or Wordfast. However, a high price is their inconvenience. Another tool Wordfast, which is compatible with above mentioned ones, makes compromise. There are also another tools of this kind such as IBM-TM (Translation Manager), Transit, or SDLX, that are less known, that however also belongs to my CAT tools equipment. (Tools)
